Welcome to our Wellesley College family. Because you have spent most of your life abroad, the Slater International Center has a program which provides an American hostess to welcome you to the United States, and to help you through the first few weeks. As an international student who is not a permanent resident of the United States, you will be offered the opportunity of friendship with the family of a Wellesley College graduate, or a member of the College community. Your hostess will write to you to tell you about herself and her family. She will meet you when you first arrive in the Boston area, and will be happy to help you with the details of getting settled and help you with questions that you may have concerning life in America. She does not, however, assume any financial responsibility for you, and you are under no obligation to her.
Your hostess wants to help a new international student enjoy her stay at the College. In the past, most students have appreciated the opportunity to have some older American friends nearby. For many years, international students have appreciated the opportunity to have older American friends available, and some students have maintained their friendships with host families long after they have graduated. We hope that this friendship will become a memorable part of your Wellesley College experience.
