How do I get support for students’ research-related expenses during the academic year?

--Hughes funds are available for 350, 360/370 and students in the FY/Sophomore Mentoring Program. See Jeanne Cutrona or Adele Wolfson to make sure that you have an activity code for eligible students. Mass Space Grant Consortium funds may also be used for students in space-related fields.

What if I want my student to present a paper at a conference?

--There are several possibilities for student travel. Each of these will generally cover up to $400 of expenses per student:

What if I want to design a new course or do revisions on an existing one?

-Hughes curricular development grants, up to $2500, are awarded twice each year: http://www.wellesley.edu/ScienceCenter/grants/hughes.html

-AIRE curricular development grants, up to $5000, are awarded on a rolling basis throughout the year: http://www.wellesley.edu/DeanCollege/NSFAIRE/nsfgrant.html

What if I want a summer research student?
    • Faculty in Chemistry should check with their REU directors that their research projects are updated and listed as available for the coming summer.
    • Other faculty members should discuss research possibilities with students or through department programs.

What if I want a student to work during the summer on a curricular development project? What if I need a small amount of money for my own research? What if I am changing the direction of my research and need major funding?
