Evelina Guzauskyte
Evelina Guzauskye is an Assistant Professor in the Spanish Department, specializing in colonial Latin American literature. She received her B.A. from Middlebury College and her Ph.D. from Columbia. Her research focuses on colonial Latin American literature, travel and exploration literature, and transatlantic studies. Her publications include “Fragmented Borders, Fallen Men, Bestial Women: Theoretical Considerations about the Portrayal of Violence in New Spain Eighteenth-Century Casta Paintings” (article forthcoming in The Bulletin of Spanish Studies) and “Teaching the Transatlantic: Science, Art and Literature in the Hispanic World of the Eighteenth Century” (article forthcoming in edited collection by Cambridge Scholar Press). Prof. Guzauskyte is also currently working on a book manuscript The Places of Places: Naming and Ordering the World in Christopher Columbus’s Diario de a bordo.
At Wellesley College, she has taught various courses including The Clothed and the Naked in Colonial Latin America (SPAN 307), Latin American Culture and Civilization (SPAN 273), Intersecting Currents: Afro-Hispanic and Indigenous Writers in Latin American Literature (SPAN 271), Oral and Written Communication (SPAN 241) and Intermediate Spanish (201 and 202). Professor Guzauskyte has worked closely with members of Alianza and Mezcla and is currently serving on the International Study Committee.
Professor Guzauskyte is also interested in educational technology and has recently collaborated with the Knapp Media Center for Instructional Technology in creating a web-based project for her senior seminar, SPAN 307, The Clothed and the Naked in Colonial Latin America: http://www.wellesley.edu/Computing/IT/humanities.html#spanish.
