Technology for Student Organizations
The Office of Student Activities coordinates technological services for student organizations including access to organization websites, organization FirstClass conferences, and organization voicemail. Below you will find information about Controller’s training and how to request a FirstClass conference, how to request a website account, and specifics about voicemail.
Student Organization Conferences & Special Interest Groups
The Office of Student Activities oversees the creation of student conferences for constituted student organizations which appear in the “Student Organizations” conference, and unofficial student organizations whose conferences appear in “Student Forums.” In addition, OSA also administers the formation of Special Interest Group (SIGs) conferences, which are for temporary, personal use. Use of student organization conferences and SIGs must comply with the College’s
Policy for the Responsible Use of Information Technology Resources [link] and
with the Honor Code [link].
Role of the Controller
FirstClass conferences have at least one person--the "Controller"--who takes responsibility for managing it. The controller of a conference can create sub-conferences inside the main conference, delete old messages, moderate discussions, and restrict access to particular individuals or groups.
As controller, you are responsible for setting the policies for use, making them known, and enforcing them if necessary. Additionally, controllers are responsible for guaranteeing that “Student Conferences” is listed as a controller within their conference so that OSA can make necessary subtitles when asked.
Controller Training Schedule Fall 2008

Controller Resources
Student organization conferences are supported by the Office of Student Activities. Students requesting training, new conferences, or to have changes in their controller assignments should e-mail the “Student
Conf. Request” conference.
