Katherine McCanless Ruffin, Book Arts Program
Director
This studio course focuses on the issue of composition in two-dimensional
imagery. It introduces the fundamental elements of design (e.g. line,
shape, value, space, color) and their function in the process of
composition. Studio projects emphasize formal problem-solving skills
as a means of achieving more effective visual communication. Weekly
assignments are given in a variety of media. This course is not digitally
