On-Line Directory Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Directory Information about students

  • With student email addresses now being searchable from the Internet, will this significantly increase the amount of email "spam" the College receives?

    This is conceivable but by using First Class mail rules spam can be managed within your account.

  • Will I be able to see which residence hall a student lives in? Which room? From on-campus? From off-campus?

    Beginning in the fall of 2005, student email addresses only will be searchable from the Internet. No other information will be provided from the off-campus view. From the on-campus view, the residence hall will be provided as it is today with no room number.

  • Will I be able to search the directory by room number and/or by building name?

    You can currently search by building name or by room number (non-student locations) and this will continue, but it will be enhanced. Our goal is to enhance the search criteria to allow searches by different and multiple fields. However, these enhancements will not be available for fall 2005. As with the printed directory, student room numbers will not be included in the on-line directory.

  • How can I opt out of having my home information included in the on-line directory?

    Students must send an email to regoffice@wellesley.edu requesting to remove home information from the on-line directory.

  • How can I opt out of the on-line directory entirely? And what happens if I do?

    The only way for a student to opt out entirely from the on-line directory is to go to the Registrar’s Office and request a confidentiality form. This must be done at the Registrars Office and has many different ramifications. For more information, contact the Registrar’s Office.

 

Directory Information about Faculty, Staff and Union

  • What change will viewers see both from on and off campus with the new on-line directory?

    The off campus view will not change. The on-campus view will now include home information and preferred first name if one has been established.

  • Will I be able to search the directory by room number and/or by building name?

    You can currently search by building name or by room number (non-student locations) and this will continue, but it will be enhanced.   • Will I be able to see which residence hall a student lives in?
    Which dorm room? From on-campus? From off-campus?

    From the on-campus view, the residence hall will be provided as it is today with no room number. Beginning in the fall of 2005, student email addresses only will be searchable from the Internet. No other information will be provided.

  • I'd like to find all the faculty and staff whose offices are on the 3rd floor of Green Hall. How can I do that?

    Presently this search is not an option but one we will look into providing as an enhancement.

  • Will both the Internet email address and the FirstClass name be listed?

    Only the Internet email address will be listed. However with the on-campus view the “preferred first name” will be included for faculty, staff and students.

  • How can I opt out of having my home information included in the on-line directory?

    For those faculty and staff members who have asked to have their information removed from the printed directory, this will be the default for the on-line directory. If you are not sure what your status is, log onto Banner web and under Personal Information>Addresses and Phones> if next to the home telephone number it says “Unlisted” your home information will not be available. To make a change to your status, Faculty should contact the Dean of the College Office and Staff should contact Human Resources.

 

Other information in the directory

  • Will there be a list of Resident Directors and Bell Desk numbers?

    There will be a list of Residence Halls and the Bell Desk telephone numbers for each.

  • Where can I go to find an up-to-date campus map?

    There are current campus maps on the web site already. In our table of contents for the on line directory there will be a link.

  • Will alternate numbers, such as FAX lines, be listed, and searchable?

    As our goal is to duplicate the printed directory, we will be working to include this page for fall.
