Tsunami Relief Travel Grants
and Application
Purpose: Tsunami Relief Travel Grants provide funding to currently enrolled students for community service projects related to tsunami relief during Wintersession, spring break, and the summer.
Examples of projects covered:
- Initiatives with an organization that charges a registration fee and for which assistance is needed to pay the fee and travel expenses.
- A project with an organization that does not cover travel and living expenses.
- Supplies and money for the relief efforts of an organization for which you will be working (these organizations must be an approved organization by the U.S. Government - for more information, contact Melissa Hawkins).
Amount: Dependent on the program, travel, and other fees. A detailed budget must be included with the application.
Eligibility: All full-time students and Davis Scholars currently enrolled at Wellesley College are eligible. Students are only eligible to receive one grant per year. Applications will be processed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Awards will be made until all funds for the year have been allocated.
Limitations and exclusions: This money may only be used for programs that are directly related to tsunami relief. Money cannot be transferred to another project. Grant funds may not be used for reimbursement of expenses incurred prior to your application.
To Apply: Students must:
- Complete the Community Service Tsunami Relief Travel Grant (includes a detailed budget);
- Write an essay stating the nature of their project that must include:
- goals for the project, including a detailed description of the project and how it will be carried out according to a specific timeline;
- name and description of the organization and/or group that will be served;
- Provide a verification letter from the agency or project leader on organization letterhead.
Applications should be submitted a minimum of three weeks before

Report: Students receiving funding will be required to write a two-page typed
report by the end of the semester in which their projects occurred. Reports
should be submitted to Melissa Hawkins, Director of Service and Stipend Programs,
