How to Get Involved/Internships


These organizations are among those providing relief in tsunami affected areas:

Global Crossroads - an international volunteer organization offering opportunities in 20 countries throughout Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

Serendib - an international volunteer organization founded to foster educational development programs in Sri Lanka and Thailand.

UN Volunteers - the UN organization that supports sustainable human development globally through promotion of volunteerism, including mobilization of volunteers. Administered by the United Nations Development Programme.

Funding is available for the projects listed above and for projects you have found on your own through the Tsunami Relief Travel Grant program.

2005 Recipients:

The following ten students have received funding for their work with tsunami relief for summer 2005 through the Tsunami Relief Travel Grant:

Nimmi Ariyaratne '07
Organization: Sarvodaya
Country: Sri Lanka. Nimmi is going to work with Sarvodaya to help the CWS set-up a project for Wintersession 2006.

Elizabeth Bryant '05
Organization: Global Crossroads
Country: Sri Lanka (Dadalla, Mahamodera or Pettigalawatta – location to be determined closer to departure date)
Elizabeth will be working on cleaning and reconstruction projects in the fishing villages.

Katie Ellis '07
Organization: Anathi – program through the Living Heritage Trust
Country: Batticaloa, Sri Lanka
Katie will be working on programs for orphans and children and displaced families. The majority of her work will be with educational programs.

Kathrin will be working on cleaning and reconstruction projects in the fishing villages.

In Sri Lanka, Hye will be working on rebuilding projects and educational programs for children. In India, she will be work with childcare programs.
