Food Service

Food Service Employees currently work in the dormitory kitchens of Bates, Tower Court, Stone-Davis, Beebe, Pomeroy, Cazenove, Claflin Bakery and Schneider Center. Their positions range from General Service Worker to Head Cook. There are approximately 92 Union workers in Food Service.

Grounds

The Grounds Department Union Employees work to keep the campus safe and beautiful. They keep the roads and paths clear in winter, maintain the athletic fields, take care of the trees and keep the grass mowed and trimmed. There are 13 people working on grounds, and a separate crew of 3 who take care of the Nehoiden Golf Course.

Green Beach

Motor Pool

Motor pool maintains the fleet of vehicles and small equipment owned by the college, as well as, driving the trucks that deliver supplies and help with events. There are 7 Union people working for motor pool.

Physical Plant

The power plant union employees are truly behind the scenes and are rarely seen out of the power plant where round the clock watches are necessary to make sure heat and electricity are delivered uninterrupted to the buildings on campus. 8 people cover all the shifts at the power plant and the maintenance of equipment.

Custodial

Custodians keep all the buildings on campus clean and livable. They also help set up for events and deal with some building emergencies. Approximately 71 people work in Custodial Services.

Electrical Shop

Maintenance Services

Maintenance Services deals with the many maintenance needs and problems that occur with the many buildings on campus. Shops that fall under Maintenance Services include: the Electrical shop, the Plumbing shop, the Specialty shop, the Paint Shop, the Carpentry shop, the Lock shop, the Sheet Metal shop, the Energy shop and the Technology shop. 40 skilled trades Union Workers work in all the shops combined.

Plumbing Shop

The plumbing shop deals with the water supply on campus. The six plumbers work under maintenance services. Monitoring the campus wells, fixing leaking faucets and maintaining irrigation systems are among the many jobs they do.

Specialty Shop

The specialty shop deals with a variety of campus systems including refrigeration, fire alarms, elevators, HVAC and other alarm systems. There are seven positions in this shop.

Paint Shop

Carpentry Shop

The carpentry shop builds and repairs anything requiring skills in wood working. Five carpenters take care of these needs.

The three person sheet metal shop is responsible for taking care of roof repairs, leaded windows, gutters and duct work.

Energy Shop

The energy shop mechanics look after the controls on the various HVAC systems (heating, ventilation, air conditioning). This is a four person shop.

Technology Shop

Steam Fitter

The four steam fitters make sure the steam heat functions properly in all the buildings on campus. They also deal with chilled water and do welding projects.

Distribution

The two Union employees at the Distribution center work to keep the goods used on campus stocked and delivered.

College Club

The College Club workers work in the kitchen and in the dining rooms and guest rooms serving the campus and the public for daily business and special events. Seventeen Union employees work at the College Club.

Collins Cafe

Currently 2 Union people help at Collins Cafe with the preparation of food for museum guests and campus staff and students.

Botanic Gardens/Greenhouses

Three Union workers take care of the Greenhouses and the outside 22 acres that comprise the Arboretum and Botanic Gardens.

Physical Education

There are 4 Union workers who are responsible for running the front desk at the Keohane Sports Center and maintaining the boats and equipment used by Wellesley's athletic teams.

Animal Facilities

Two Union employees work in the animal facilities, taking care of the animals studied by the Biology and Psychology Departments.
