TASTY GREENHOUSE LIGHT SHOW

Meet the plants and pollinators that bring you familiar and exotic fruits at Greenhouse Light Show 2008: Fruits of Their Labors. From figs to lychees to pomegranates, see the plants that bear the fruit and find out what kinds of pollinators they depend on. Get the latest on the bee crisis and find out what you can do to support pollinators, both locally and globally. And of course – sample the fruits, which happen to include chocolate and coffee…

Wednesday, December 10, from 5 to 8pm - come to the Greenhouse Visitor Center for a tasty start to the evening, and continue into the theatrically lit greenhouses. Take a docent-led tour or explore the show on your own. Children are welcome.

There is a great collection of fruit-bearing plants in the Margaret Ferguson Greenhouses, right here on campus. The greenhouses are magical at night with the special lighting at this show, but you can also visit any day of the year during regular hours (8am to 4pm, extended to 6pm on Wednesdays). There is never a charge to visit. For more information, call the Friends of Horticulture at 781-283-3094.

3rd annual Greenhouse Light Show

sunflower spirals

What do sunflowers, pinecones, desert succulents, and pineapples have in common?  Art, mathematics, and developmental biology come together in gorgeous Fibonacci spirals found in a majority of plants.  Discover these and other fascinating patterns and striking uses of color in nature as you tour the theatrically lit greenhouses.

Wed., Dec. 12, from 5 to 8pm

Enter at the Greenhouse Visitor Center, where there will be color and pattern activity centers and docents ready to lead tours of the show.  You are also welcome to explore the show at your own pace (bring a flashlight if you have one).  Children are welcome as long as they can keep their grownups from running amok!

For more information please contact Kristina Jones, 781-283-3027 or kjones@wellesley.edu.
