About Us
At the Wellesley College Friends of Horticulture, our mission is to:
- Share a passion for plants, horticulture and botany and their abilities to enrich people's lives;
- Support and promote the mission of the Wellesley College Botanic Gardens through exceptional outreach, education and interpretation;
- Honor the unique landscape of Wellesley College and the vision of its founders.
In addition to offering tours of the Margaret C. Ferguson Greenhouses and the outdoor gardens, WCFH offers courses, workshops, lectures and other programs in two broad areas: horticulture and art. Art programs focus on watercolor painting and botanical art. WCFH enjoys a close relationship with the New England Society of Botanical Artists (NESBA), a chapter of the American Society of Botanical Artists (ASBA). WCFH is a co-sponsoring partner with several area horticultural institutions: Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University, Massachusetts Horticultural Society, New England Wild Flower Society, and Tower Hill Botanic Gardens.
WCFH is also active in reaching out to the College community, offering special nighttime study breaks for Wellesley College students at the greenhouses as well as the First Year Student Plant Giveaway, where new students are welcomed to Wellesley College with plants for their dorm rooms. WCFH also participates in the College's Family and Friends weekend, prospective student open houses, and admitted student open houses. During Reunion Weekend, WCFH offers Greenhouse Kids' Time as well as tours of the Botanic Gardens.
