Volunteers
Wellesley College Friends of Horticulture volunteers are one of the Friends' most valuable resources. Our organization is blessed with people who give their time and energy to aid us in achieving our goals. With our dedicated volunteers, the Friends are constantly stretching and redefining our efforts to bring horticulture to the College community and the community at large.
Your volunteer service in support of the Wellesley College Botanic Gardens will help us to plant horticultural and botanical enthusiasm in today's students and visitors. By sharing our passions, we are "Making a Difference with Plants."
WCFH volunteers are instrumental in aiding the Friends' activities in many areas:
- As greeters who sit at the desk in the Visitor Center during scheduled shifts to welcome and direct visitors.
- As docents who give tours of the greenhouses or botanic gardens.
- As children's program coordinators who help organize and carry out kids' activities in the Visitor Center, sometimes in conjunction with children's tours.
- As hosts who help set up refreshments, arrange tables and chairs, and welcome attendees during monthly volunteer meetings or College community events.
- As participants in special projects like the Bloom Board, the Floraphiles, or other areas of exhibit interpretation.
- As gardeners who participate in special projects in the Botanic Gardens under the direction of WCBG staff.
WCFH volunteers receive the following benefits:
- The opportunity to volunteer in beautiful indoor and outdoor gardens with associates who have similar interests.
- Monthly meetings to socialize and learn more about plants (usually the first Monday of every month).
- Permission to audit the Wellesley College course: BISC 108, "Environmental Horticulture with Laboratory," during the Spring Term.
- Annual "Volunteer Appreciation Day" field trip.
- Member discounts for WCFH program offerings including courses, seminars, and field trips.
- Use of Friends of Horticulture Library in Visitor Center.
- Friends of Horticulture Newsletter.
