from 1940 Junior Show, Class of 1942
Dialogue from the 1940 script:
characters:
Wellesley Girls 1) Comedienne 2) History major grind 3) Socialite
4) & 5) "Typical" Wellesley girls, and roommates
6) Dumbbell--very nearsighted, etc.
Girl 1: Speaking of [Junior] Prom, have you heard from Dick yet?
Girl 2: No, not yet, but I'm expecting a letter today.
Girl 3: Why a letter? He must be one of those MIT boys who are afraid
to use the telephone.
Girl 1: No, she's the one who's afraid of it. She overheard the operator
asking him for a date, so she made him have the phone taken out.
Girl 3: Did he do it?
Girl 1: What? Take out the phone? Heck, no! He took out the operator.
Two years later, the Class of '44 included this song in their junior
show, "C'est la Guerre":
I THINK I'LL TAKE A WEEKEND
I haven't seen a man in years,
Not even a lame or blind one.
And as for a man for Prom tonight,
Where ever on earth could I find one?
I think I'll take a weekend
A very extended weekend
So I'm going away and I'm going to stay
Until I find a man.
There's going to be a manhunt
A very extensive manhunt
'Cuz I'm on the track and I won't be back
Until I find a man.
