Display Advertising Deadlines, Specifications, and Rates

Ad Deadlines:

Space reservations: 1st of the month previous to issue cover date; e.g., March 1st for April issue.

Camera-ready display ads: 5th of the month previous to issue cover date, e.g., March 5th for April issue.

Copy/materials for display ads to be designed and produced by the Women's Review: As early as possible, and no later than the 1st of the month previous to the issue cover date.

Specification for Camera-Ready Display Ads:

The Women's Review is offset on newsprint.
Page size is 10" by 15"; each page contains 60 column inches in 4 columns, with 1/6-inch gutters. Pica width: 60 picas with 1-pica gutters. Each column is 2.25" (14 picas) wide.
Black and white screen: 100 lines.

1. ELECTRONIC SPECIFICATIONS AND DELIVERY: The Women's Review of Books accepts black and white PDF files only. Fonts must be embedded. We do not accept any other file formats. The files should be optimized for printing, not for web production. E-mail your black and white PDF files as attachments to amcclell@wellesley.edu. Include your name, telephone number, and e-mail address.

2. HARDCOPY SPECIFICATIONS AND DELIVERY: Hardcopy formats, in order from best to worst, are: negative film, with laser proof for position only (FPO); positive printed on high-quality, white paper.

Failure to supply camera-ready advertising materials that we judge usable in time for production leaves the advertiser liable for the cost of the reserved space.

Specifications for ads to be produced by the Women's Review Production Department

If you wish to have the Women's Review design and typeset your ad (at an additional cost), you may provide the content in hardcopy or electronically.

Production Fees for 2004/2005

The one-time charge below is in addition to the cost of the display ad space.
The production fee includes any or all of the following services: copywriting, design, typesetting, camerawork, production.
This fee is not subject to any discount.

1/8 page: $75
1/4 page: $125
1/3 page: $165
1/2 page: $220
Full page: $400

1. ELECTRONIC SPECIFICATIONS AND DELIVERY: E-mail your ad text in the body of an e-mail or as an MS Word attachment. Do not embed images in your e-mail or MS Word file. If you want to include black and white logos or images in the ad, send these separately. They must be:

* black and white (grayscale) JPEG, TIF or GIF files
* 150 dpi or higher (images used on websites are usually of too low resolution to use in print)
* at least the size, or larger, at which you want them to appear.
* Do not send fonts

Send separate word and image files to amcclell@wellesley.edu. Include your name, telephone number, and e-mail address.

2. HARDCOPY SPECIFICATIONS AND DELIVERY: Hardcopy black and white images must be

* of very good print quality
* high contrast
* at least the size, or larger, at which you want them to appear

The Women's Review takes no responsibility for the appearance of images delivered in the wrong specifications, such as in color or in the wrong size.

Frequency discounts:

4-5 insertions: 5%;

15% to non-profit organizations.
5% for prepayment (payment must arrive with the ad copy).
15% commission to recognized advertising agencies (except where advertiser has claimed non-profit discount). Commission is taken on the discounted (net) cost of the insertions, after any frequency or other discounts, calculated progressively, have been subtracted.
