Welcome to the Wellesley College Writing Program!

As writers ourselves, we have shared E. M. Forster's experience in our own work. We have all been surprised by the unexpected -- and satisfying -- insights that our writing has yielded. Writing allows us to discover and clarify our understanding of the world. We realize, however, that this is a process that requires patience and discipline as well as inspiration. Our goal in teaching writing is to help students understand that writing is a dynamic activity, a process in which ideas are shaped, revised, and often changed completely. We emphasize that it is important for students to develop their own viewpoints in arguments and analysis, and to have confidence in them.
