Writing Prizes

DEADLINE for submissions: Wednesday, April 23, 2008, 12:00 noon

The Writing Program recognizes excellence in academic writing through the awarding of the Three Generations Prize for Writing 125, the Three Generations Prize for Writing about Science, the Three Generations Prize for Writing about Social Science, and the Davis Prize for Writing about Art. The cash prizes of $300 are awarded annually.

Congratulations to our Fall 2007 Writing 125 competition winners!

First Place: Caitlin Kearns, a student in Ann Velenchik's course Wealth and Poverty in America, for her essay "Unionization Rates and Rising Wage Inequality: Causation or Correlation?" The judges assure us that this essay is accessible to non-economists (like me!). I'm looking forward to reading it.

Honorable Mention: Alice Lee, a student in Jeannine Johnson's course Poetry and Other Arts, for "Monet, Water Lilies, and the Illumination of the Modern Poet"

Thanks to faculty members, Karen Pepper (Writing) , Sarah Wall-Randell (English) , and Ann Velenchik (Economics) for serving as judges.
