Multicultural Life

A large number of campus organizations are dedicated to multicultural students or issues, providing opportunities to share language, food, music, and friendship. Many of these organizations also sponsor campuswide lectures, panel discussions, and performances to share aspects of the cultures they celebrate.

At Wellesley, the multicultural environment is informed, guided, and shaped by the Cultural Advising Network, a group of advisors who represent and advocate for each of the multicultural groups on the campus.

In addition to campus organizations, Wellesley offers its students facilities and services to help foster the sharing of cultures and ideas. Students are encouraged to explore their cultural heritage and to take advantage of social and educational opportunities available to them through various cultural centers. Following are examples of resources available on campus:

  • Harambee House is the cultural center for students of African descent. The House contains a collection of materials about African culture and offers space for studying, socializing, cooking, or program planning. Its programs enlighten the College community about African, African American, and Afro-Caribbean traditions.
  • The Hillel Foundation sponsors religious, social, educational, and cultural activities for Jewish women and their guests. A kosher kitchen next door is available for students to prepare their own meals.
  • The Slater International/Multicultural Center is a popular meeting place for multicultural students and organizations. Students can use the facilities to plan functions, study, and entertain.
  • Schneider College Center offers space for multicultural groups and activities.
  • The College's chapel provides students with space for a variety of faith traditions.
