WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO THE DAVIS DEGREE PROGRAM?
Prior
to joining the Wellesley College community, I attended MassBay Community
College in Wellesley Hills, Massachusetts. Before that, I served in the United States Army for four years. I was
stationed in Heidelberg, Germany, and deployed to Iraq, Kuwait,
and Kosovo.
I was apprehensive
about applying to Wellesley College because I really didn’t think I had a chance of being accepted. I was
shocked and incredibly happy when I received my acceptance letter
in the mail. Wellesley College has given me the second chance that
I thought I’d never have.
WHAT IS THE DAVIS SCHOLAR COMMUNITY LIKE?
The
Davis Scholar Community is extremely welcoming and supportive.
When I left the military, I was afraid that I would never find the same sense of camaraderie that I had with my
fellow soldiers and leaders. However, Wellesley and the Davis Scholar
community have given me a wonderful amount of support.
WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN INVOLVED WITH ON CAMPUS?
Last
year I was the event coordinator for the Davis Scholar House Council.
I was responsible for coordinating the Davis Scholar’s social
events on campus. I really enjoyed this position because it gave
the opportunity to meet with other members in our community and work
to achieve our organization’s collective goals. This year I
will be the President of the Davis Scholar’s House Council
and I hope to continue to help advance our program.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT WELLESLEY?
The academics at Wellesley, though challenging, are extremely rewarding.
I have worked very hard and learned so much since I first arrived
on campus. One of the things I appreciate most about Wellesley is
that I have been encouraged to explore my own interests. I
am currently majoring in Environmental Studies and Philosophy.
I chose these majors not only because they interest me, but also because
I really enjoyed working with the professors in these departments.
The Davis Degree Program has given me the opportunity of a lifetime. I never thought
I would be able to attend a college of Wellesley’s stature.
I also never imagined being capable of succeeding at Wellesley.
I struggled through my first semester, but with the support from
the staff, professors, and my fellow Davis Scholars, I managed
to work through my shortcomings and succeed in the following semesters.
