COURSE: Intro
to Sociology: Conformity and Deviance (SOC 138) with Professor
Lee Cuba. It introduced me to a field I didn’t
know anything about and sparked my love of sociology.
ACADEMIC PERSPECTIVES: What attracted
me to the double major was the way both concentrations have
a different view on
the shape of the world, yet interact so beautifully.
I find
the breadth of study in sociology appealing; it allows us to
understand society on many levels, including an understanding
of the work,
hobbies, activities, values, and lifestyles of cultures around
the world. I also find wisdom in economic analysis, since the
scarcity model well-informs human motivations and behavior around
the world.
FAVORITE THING ABOUT WELLESLEY (OR A WOMEN’S
COLLEGE): As
strange as it sounds, I tend to forget that Wellesley is
a women’s
college. It is really cool that the president of your club,
the leader of your class, and the person sitting next you, for
the
most part, will be a woman. Saying that, it’s not like
if you come here, you’ll never see a boy again.
Boston
has so much too offer from museums to restaurants to other
colleges.
I
love the fact that I can go hang out with my friends in the
city and then return to our gorgeous suburban campus.
Granted,
the
very best thing I love about Wellesley is my crew team and
the fact
that we get to row on the Charles River every morning. I joined
crew as a first year, without having any experience in high
school, and immediately met 30 of my closest friends.
DREAM JOB: Oh, I’m not sure.
I’m thinking something
in a government department. Maybe Health and Human Services.
Wow. That’s not a very ‘wildest dreams’ job,
so I’ll
say the head of the U.S. Olympic Committee.
FUN
FACT: Because
my dad’s in the Army, I went to three
high schools: one in Korea, one in Germany, and one in Pennsylvania.

8 on the Charles River, one of the major centers of rowing in the
country. We are very privileged to row there. Bottom photo:
We're on Lake Waban, right on campus, with Galen Tower in the
background. I'm sitting in the 4-seat.
