COURSE: History
of the Motion Pictures (CAMS 233): Professor Viano
constantly challenges my preconceived notions.
YOUR PERSPECTIVES ON ACADEMICS: One
of the best things about a Studio Art major is that you do long-term
projects
and papers versus taking panic-inducing exams.
I get charcoal
under my
fingernails;
I watch
a
bunch of
experimental
films in the library or on YouTube (contemporary art is
everywhere). Experimentation and mistakes are encouraged! Because
we’re
a small department, we get more attention, less competition
and posing. And you get to make friends with people outside
the art
dept. I love that I can make friends with people in the
sciences and English with interests and goals different than
mine. I could
not do that at an art school. I like the diversity of the
undergrad experience.
The Davis Museum’s cool
and exciting new exhibition “Global
Feminisms” and always well-rounded and exclusive
permanent collection makes staying connected to the art
community fun, easy,
and affordable.
EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING - WINTERSESSION: The
Spirit of Barcelona (SPAN 258) with Carlos Ramos during
Wintersession was my first excursion to Europe. We stayed
with host
families and made trips to museums and performances
every day. This Wellesley program proved advantageous
in all respects: costs,
accommodation, and safety. Next year I hope to go with
Wellesley to India for Wintersession!
DREAM
JOB: I
want to get a fellowship to make and study art across the world. Then
I want to go home to LA and write for
smart comedy: the likes
of "Arrested Development" and "Seinfeld."
FUN
FACT: I
love the Northeast, but when I miss my Socal (southern California)
place of birth, I turn on YouTube and watch random home videos
that strangers make
and post about LA. The most bizarre is one of a guy
driving around my neighborhood yelling at stop signs.
