"I love the organization [Mezcla], and I love that I am able to be part of it my entire time here, as it is important to who I am as a person, and it also allowed me to connect with other Latinas on campus and form a support network."

FAVORITE COURSE: Many courses have definitely changed my thinking for the best during my time at Wellesley, but the Independent Study in the Women's Studies Department I am taking now is touching my heart. I love speaking to my professor, Irene Mata, a Latina/Chicana academician, and I can see many of my interests, culture, and just me in everything that I read. This course has also taught me how very specific experiences - those that usually are not considered - can apply to every student, no matter what her background is. I never feel like reading for this class is work; it’s just fun and awesome!

EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING - INTERNSHIP: I participated in an internship in Guanajuato, Mexico, teaching English at a social center. I was able to participate through the generous support of Wellesley's Center for Work and Service, which provides stipends for unpaid internships. I directly experienced teaching to small groups, which is still one of my interests in life. I was also able to truly give back to a community from which I came.

FAVORITE THING ABOUT WELLESLEY: I have been involved in Mezcla, the Latina student organization on campus, since my first year. During that time I have served as the ALANA Admission Representative, Communications Chair, and now in my senior year, Vice President. I love the organization, and I love that I am able to be part of it my entire time here, as it is important to who I am as a person, and it also allowed me to connect with other Latinas on campus and form a support network. My closest friends are very closely involved with Mezcla and that has been key to making the organization a tighter-knit community. We are open to everyone who appreciates Latino culture, and we communicate that message to our Wellesley sisters on campus.

DREAM JOB: I want to move to Chicago and just live before I go to law school. I would love to be able to work within a community of new immigrants and help them through the many issues they may encounter when first arriving in the United States. I realize that many of those issues can be legal; I hope to further continue that work through a legal career.

FUN FACT: I won't touch eggs. I hate the taste, touch, and EVERYTHING ABOUT THEM. Not the greatest food.
