FAVORITE COURSE: At Wellesley, courses in Computer Science and French have been my favorites. So far, my best experience at Olin College of Engineering, where I am cross-registered, was a class called Design Nature. In this class, we spent the semester on two major hands-on projects, building little robots based on creatures found in nature, that did things like hop up and down and climb the walls.

I am a computer science major at Wellesley with a real passion is engineering. Luckily for me, Olin is right nearby, and Wellesley students can pursue a five-course minor there. I’m doing mine in mechanical engineering, as I’ve always been fascinated by machines, how they work and how we use them every day to improve our lives.

YOUR PERSPECTIVES ON ACADEMICS: I love having so many options! I truly believe that coming to Wellesley means you can show up with a really wide range of interests and build a great program for yourself no matter what your passion turns out to be, because we have such strong programs in both the liberal arts and the sciences, and access to places like MIT and Olin, if engineering ends up being your thing.

It has been my experience in dealing with Wellesley faculty that their top priority is helping me to pursue my passions to the fullest. I think there’s something really special about going to a small enough school that most of the professors in my department know my name and know what sorts of things I’m interested in.

RESEARCH/INTERNSHIPS: My major advisor helped me design an independent study last year where another student and I built and programmed an autonomous robot that drove through a maze looking for a candle, and then put out the flame without any human help. (See maze photo below.) I had so much fun on that project that I’m enrolling in a robotics course at Olin next semester!

FAVORITE THING ABOUT WELLESLEY: I find being at Wellesley very empowering. Being surrounded every day by so many smart, strong-willed women is great for building confidence and self-reliance.

DREAM JOB: All I know about my dream job at this stage is that I want to do engineering work, contributing to projects that have a big positive impact on our planet and our society. I also plan to have kids someday, so my dream job would have to be flexible enough to accommodate that.
