My
name is Megan Briggs. I’m a junior majoring in comparative
literature, which means I spend a lot of my time reading
Spanish and English poetry and fiction. I still can’t
get over how amazing it is that I get to do what I love
to earn my diploma (I also can’t understand why what
I love can sometimes cause me so much stress). This year
I am studying abroad in Madrid, Spain—which has been
a dream of mine as long as I can remember, so I’m
really enjoying myself. At the same time, I miss the Wellesley
community, my amazing friends, and all the things I was
About me…I’m originally from a small beach town called
Hermosa Beach, just outside Los Angeles—a fantastic place to
grow up, except for all the sunburns. I love to travel and I love
big cities. My favorite movie is Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and
one my favorite books (who can choose just one?) is J.D. Salinger’s
Franny and Zooey. I’m a vegetarian, which is a bit of a challenge
in a country that loves its ham! I can’t go a day without chocolate
or caffeine. My pet peeves are bad grammar and people who don’t
feel compassion for others. I don’t get enough sleep (I never
will) because I love to be busy. After Wellesley, I hope to pursue
a career in either law or academia.

My
name is Kelly Jáuregui, and I’m a Political
Science and Spanish major. My majors mean that I spend
way too much time reading, trying to read, pretending
to read, or thinking about how I should be reading. I’ve
just returned from a semester abroad in Barcelona, Spain.
I had an absolutely amazing time. I had adventures all
over Europe, and I learned a lot a about life, Spain,
and the U.S. I got to see the world through the lens
of another culture and in the process learned a lot about
myself. I learned the ins and outs of Barcelona’s
amazing art and architecture, beaches, and of course
its infamous nightlife.
I told myself I would take it easy this semester, but instead have a jam-packed
schedule. I dedicate a lot of time to Mezcla, the Latina organization, and Phi
Sig, the lecture society. Both orgs have a strong social component, which means
this semester has been packed with mixers and events. I also babysit an adorable
little boy named David for a family that lives in Natick.
So a little more about myself. I’m from Union City, NJ. It is the most
densely populated city in the U.S. Its population is 82% Hispanic or Latino.
I spend lots of time missing home, both because I miss the crowds and sounds
of the city, and because I miss my crazy Cuban family. I have about ten people
who need to be notified of any event or change in my life. For example, when
I found out I was going to Peru, it required several phone calls: One to my mother,
one to my father, one to my older sister, one to my grandmother, one to my grandfather.
Word spreads–and then there are more phone calls.
I also have a close-knit group of friends at Wellesley, most of whom are still
abroad this semester. We are unofficially called “Pom First,” named
after our first-year res hall and floor. My friends are an amazing and diverse
group of fun girls. The biggest adjustment this semester has definitely been
not having them around.
I’m a vegetarian, something which does not sit well with my meat-eating
family and friends. But I think they’re getting used to it. I can’t
function without coffee. I have fallen in love with traveling. I’m a news
junkie and am constantly reading articles online. It’s the least guilt-inducing
form of procrastination. I’m sort of obsessed with Cuba, both its politics
and culture. I’m hoping to intern in D.C. this summer doing something related.
I’m thinking of thesis-ing in the subject next year. I’m in disbelief
that I’ll be a senior in about a month and a half. I’m thinking about
employment after graduation, but I’m pretty much set on law school sometime
in the near future.

I’m
Peggy Chen, Class of 2009, and I’m from Marietta,
GA, although, being originally from NYC, I refuse
to acknowledge that I am now from the South. I am
a biology major (the best major ever and the same
as our new president!) and also pre-med. On campus,
I’m involved in Residential Life as a RA in
Freeman Hall for the second year in a row. To make
sure my inner science major is represented, I also
work as a tutor for the Biology Department here and
do genetics research in a lab on campus.
When I’m not busy with all of that, I love just hanging out with my friends.
It really doesn’t even matter what we do, I just love their company, and
we always manage to have a good time. Mostly, we’re pretty low-key, staying
in for a dessert and movie night, going shopping or to the movies or something
like that. You know, typical girl’s night stuff.
It’s a little weird realizing that we are juniors now and have less than
half our time at college left. One thing I haven’t gotten around to doing
that I plan on finally doing this year is to go traying on Severance Green. It
would be great to do everything on the “50 things to do before leaving
Wellesley” list, but that’s a little ambitious. But I am proud to
say that I have ridden in a Campus Po car with the lights and sirens going. Twice.

I'm Marion Johnson, Class of '09, and I live in Charlotte NC,
though I was born in Westchester County, NY. I'm majoring in
English, so I spend a lot of time in the English Department
lounge, where you find the most comfortable chairs and the
coolest professors in the whole academic quad. I'm Head Projectionist
of the Film Society, and Managing Editor of Counterpoint,
the Wellesley-MIT student journal.
The Film Society shows free movies every Friday and Saturday - my favourite weekend
was Scorsese weekend, when I showed Taxi Driver and The Departed back
to back. Counterpoint covers a nice range of topics - I've written about
the last Harry Potter book, the Virginia Tech murders, being on the Campus Police
towing list for my parking tickets, and the abortion rights debate. So we're
all over the place.
Boston is probably my favourite city in the U.S, so I go at least once a week.
I have a pretty intimate knowledge of all the restaurants in Harvard Square,
the best probably being Le's Vietnamese restaurant OR Mr Bartley's Burger Cottage.
I also go to the Brattle Theatre pretty frequently; this is a pretty small independent
movie theatre in Harvard Square that shows smaller, lesser-known movies. A few
weeks ago they showed Monty Python's And Now For Something Completely Different,
and Michael Palin himself came to introduce it. I love that theatre because all
the people who go are huge movie nerds, like myself, so it's always an enjoyable
experience.
I can usually be found watching movies (especially Scorsese ones), going to aerobics,
or falling in love with a (probably dead) poet. I mostly speak in movie or 30
Rock quotes, so talking to me can get kind of confusing if you aren't much of
a movie watcher. I plan to be a political speechwriter after college, to which
people usually respond "oh....interesting..." or "like Sam Seaborn/Will
Bailey on The West Wing!!" Surprisingly, I do not watch The West Wing or
major in Cinema and Media Studies.
