My
name is Megan Briggs. I’m a junior majoring in comparative
literature, which means I spend a lot of my time reading
Spanish and English poetry and fiction. I still can’t
get over how amazing it is that I get to do what I love
to earn my diploma (I also can’t understand why what
I love can sometimes cause me so much stress). This year
I am studying abroad in Madrid, Spain—which has been
a dream of mine as long as I can remember, so I’m
really enjoying myself. At the same time, I miss the Wellesley
community, my amazing friends, and all the things I was
involved with.
About me…I’m originally from a small beach town called
Hermosa Beach, just outside Los Angeles—a fantastic place to
grow up, except for all the sunburns. I love to travel and I love
big cities. My favorite movie is Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and
one my favorite books (who can choose just one?) is J.D. Salinger’s
Franny and Zooey. I’m a vegetarian, which is a bit of a challenge
in a country that loves its ham! I can’t go a day without chocolate
or caffeine. My pet peeves are bad grammar and people who don’t
feel compassion for others. I don’t get enough sleep (I never
will) because I love to be busy. After Wellesley, I hope to pursue
a career in either law or academia.
Please post questions or comments if you have them!

My
name is Kelly Jáuregui, and I’m a Political
Science and Spanish major. My majors mean that I spend
way too much time reading, trying to read, pretending
to read, or thinking about how I should be reading. I’ve
just returned from a semester abroad in Barcelona, Spain.
I had an absolutely amazing time. I had adventures all
over Europe, and I learned a lot a about life, Spain,
and the U.S. I got to see the world through the lens
of another culture and in the process learned a lot about
myself. I learned the ins and outs of Barcelona’s
amazing art and architecture, beaches, and of course
its infamous nightlife.
I told myself I would take it easy this semester, but instead have a jam-packed
schedule. I dedicate a lot of time to Mezcla, the Latina organization, and Phi
Sig, the lecture society. Both orgs have a strong social component, which means
this semester has been packed with mixers and events. I also babysit an adorable
little boy named David for a family that lives in Natick.
So a little more about myself. I’m from Union City, NJ. It is the most
densely populated city in the U.S. Its population is 82% Hispanic or Latino.
I spend lots of time missing home, both because I miss the crowds and sounds
of the city, and because I miss my crazy Cuban family. I have about ten people
who need to be notified of any event or change in my life. For example, when
I found out I was going to Peru, it required several phone calls: One to my mother,
one to my father, one to my older sister, one to my grandmother, one to my grandfather.
Word spreads–and then there are more phone calls.
I also have a close-knit group of friends at Wellesley, most of whom are still
abroad this semester. We are unofficially called “Pom First,” named
after our first-year res hall and floor. My friends are an amazing and diverse
group of fun girls. The biggest adjustment this semester has definitely been
not having them around.
I’m a vegetarian, something which does not sit well with my meat-eating
family and friends. But I think they’re getting used to it. I can’t
function without coffee. I have fallen in love with traveling. I’m a news
junkie and am constantly reading articles online. It’s the least guilt-inducing
form of procrastination. I’m sort of obsessed with Cuba, both its politics
and culture. I’m hoping to intern in D.C. this summer doing something related.
I’m thinking of thesis-ing in the subject next year. I’m in disbelief
that I’ll be a senior in about a month and a half. I’m thinking about
employment after graduation, but I’m pretty much set on law school sometime
in the near future.

My name is Lizzy Atkin and I am a member of the Class of 2011 at Wellesley. I have lived in a variety of places including Hong Kong, Tokyo, New Jersey, and Ohio, but I currently live in Weston, MA. I am thinking of majoring in English and Classical Civilization; both departments are fantastic and have outstanding and enthusiastic professors. I love to read literature from a variety of cultures, and I’m currently reading Clouds by Aristophanes for fun this summer.
When I’m not in class, I participate in the Wellesley Ski Team and the Belly Dancing Society. Both are great exercise and are fabulous ways to meet people in and outside of Wellesley College. The ski team includes cross country and downhill skiing and is a joint team with Olin College (and a wonderful way to meet guys too!). As a member of the cross country ski team, I practiced with the team at the Weston ski track and raced in Waterville Valley during our season. Belly Dancing Society is a fun extracurricular activity that practices once a week. We learned various techniques and routines, had a final performance at the end of each semester, and had a lot of fun!
On the weekends I enjoy visiting other schools in the Boston area, such as Harvard, Babson, and Olin. My friends and I are very acquainted with the Peter Pan bus that goes into Boston every hour from Wellesley College. I also love to run every morning, and Lake Waban provides a beautiful scenic route for my daily exercise. During the summer, my family and I enjoy scuba diving in Rockport, MA, and the Caribbean islands. I love the feeling of being completely surrounded by the tranquil water and being almost weightless as if I were flying. I also love going to the beach, painting, watching the Patriots, and eating ice cream with marshmallow fluff.
Feel free to post on my blog!
