Alumnae Association History

Programs
As the Association has grown in both size and diversity, so have its programs. The following chart summarizes the development of some of the Association's major activities:

Program
Date Begun

Annual Meetings
1881

All alumnae are invited to the College to discuss College and Association business. The Annual Meeting is usually held the Sunday of Reunion.

Class Reunions
1881

Classes reune on a quinquennial system, returning to campus every five years on the first weekend after Commencement.

Alumnae Directories
1882

All-alumnae directories are printed by the WCAA for the exclusive use of the College community and alumnae.

Capital Fund Drives
1887

Alumnae volunteers coordinate with the Office for Resources to help stimulate alumnae giving and increase participation rates. Since 1952, all fund-raising activities for the College have been overseen by the College's National Development and Outreach Council.

Alumnae Trustees
1889

The Association elects four alumnae to serve six-year terms on the board of trustees. Since 1973, a Young Alumnae Trustee has been elected from every third graduating class by the current junior and senior classes and the class that graduated in the previous year to serve a three-year term.

Alumnae Clubs
1889

Groups of alumnae in a given geographic area may vote to organize a local club with a purpose in keeping with the WCAA's mission and bylaws. There are currently more than 100 registered clubs throughout the United States and abroad.
