Katharine Malone Prize for Academic Excellence
The Katharine Malone Prizes for academic excellence
were established in 1985 by alumna Claudine B. Malone '63 in
honor of her mother Katharine. The prizes praise and reward
those Wellesley scholars exemplifying the outstanding qualities
of mind, body and spirit as described in Plato's ideal education
of the Guardian.
Selection Process
Each summer, the Katharine Malone Committee meets to select
prize recipients.
The Katharine Malone First Year Prize ($10,000):
Full-time Wellesley student, in residence two consecutive
semesters, 3.9 G.P.A.,
SAT scores of at least 1420.
The Katharine Malone Sophomore Prize ($10,000):
Full-time Wellesley student, in residence four consecutive
semesters, 3.9 G.P.A.
The Katharine Malone Scholar Prize ($50,000
plus $40,000 for graduate school): Full-time Wellesley
student, in residence six
consecutive semesters, 3.9 G.P.A, member of Phi Beta Kappa.
Award Presentation
Each fall at Convocation, the three recipients are honored.
The Katharine Malone Scholar is also recognized at Commencement.
