Ellen Cantarow

At our last reunion, Ellen performed on her keyboard  to provide background music for the Sunday farewell lunch.  Ellen's music soon captured the full attention of those of us who appreciate inventive jazz.  Like Ellen, her music is subtle and intelligent.  You are listening to a track entitled Sixth Sense from her album of the same name.

Ellen's piano lessons in classical music began when she was a youngster and continued until she was in graduate school.  In the 1980's, Ellen returned to the piano to study jazz improvisation.  While continuing to work as an editor, she trained in jazz and went on to perform in and around Boston for the next fifteen years in duos, trios, and quartets.  She also performed at clubs in New York City.  She and a saxophonist gave a concert as part of a short jazz-improvisation workshop at the Edward Said Conservatory in East Jerusalem.  During these years, Ellen gave interviews and had her songs played on radio stations in and around Boston.

Ellen no longer performs publicly on piano, but she has been studying voice for nearly seven years and is in one of Boston’s best auditioned choruses, Coro Allegro.  Let's hope that our next reunion is filled with music from Ellen and our other talented classmates.
