Highlights of China and the Great Solar Eclipse
|
July 15-24, 2009
|
Join Wellesley alumnae
and friends when we travel to China to experience
one of the
greatest total solar eclipses of our lifetime.
We will view the eclipse from Oriental Land, which
provides one of the best opportunities for clear
skies on the centerline of the path of totality
where the eclipse is at its longest duration over
terra firma. Richard G. French, the Louise Sherwood
McDowell and Sarah Frances Whiting Professor of
Astrophysics, will prepare us for this astronomical
phenomenon. We will visit the Great Wall, Beijing’s
Forbidden City, the Ming Tombs, Xian’s famed
terracotta warriors, and Shanghai. This is a shared
program with Smith College. Our journey will be
enhanced by Daniel K. Gardner, a Smith professor
who specializes in the history of pre-modern China.
Optional Yangtze River Cruise:
July 24–28,
2009

With Professor Richard French |
