Welcome to the Wellesley Alumnae Affected by Autism Spectrum Disorders.
Our purpose is to build a community in which alumnae can support one another, share stories, and provide advice.
The summer 2006 issue of Wellesley magazine featured the article "Facing Austism: Wellesley Mothers & Their Children". It highlighted the stories, struggles, and triumphs of many alumnae who have children with an autism spectrum disorder. In preparing for the story, the magazine staff was inundated with personal accounts from mothers, grandmothers, special education teachers, doctors, and researchers. This is clearly one topic that connects many alumnae together, and we are pleased to announce the formation of a new alumnae group -- Wellesley Alumnae Affected by Autism Spectrum Disorders -- that will provide a framework for us to support each other.
The primary contact for this group is:
Marcia Saunders Scheiner '80
New York, NY
If you are interested in volunteering for this group, please contact Marcia.
As the list of group members grows, we hope to be able to offer local events where alumnae can gather, share their experiences, and offer support to one another.
Perhaps there are several alumnae who live in the DC area who will get together one Sunday afternoon...
Perhaps there is an autism forum being sponsored in New York that alumnae can attend together as a group...
The Wellesley College Alumnae Association will be helping to support this group. To be added as a member of this group:
1. Email firstname.lastname@example.org and request to be added to the autism group. You will then be added to the mail and email list for this group.
2. Please make sure your contact information is up to date with Wellesley College (especially your email address). Click here to learn how you can update your information.
