Studio Facilities

Studio Facilities: PNW studio space

PNW studio space
The Art Department has dedicated studio spaces in the newly renovated Pendleton West building and in the Jewett Arts Center.

Pendleton West features studios serving the following areas:
Audio
Drawing
New Media
Painting
Photography
Printmaking
Sculpture
Video

Many of these spaces are used as classroom space. Students may not work in the spaces during scheduled class times (unless, of course, they are enrolled in the course!). However, these spaces may be used as studio space by students enrolled in Studio Art classes between and after class times, so long as the space has not been reserved for another event or departmental meeting.

Students currently enrolled in Studio Art courses may use these spaces after hours so long as they adhere to the Extended Hours Access Policy. Students who have been granted extended hours swipe access should be sent the policy by their professor. If you need to be granted swipe card access to part of the building or a specific studio, please speak to your professor/adviser.

If you have other questions about using these spaces, please contact Gallery Director Samara Pearlstein, x2043 or spearls2@wellesley.edu

The Jewett Arts Center features studios serving the following areas:
Advanced Independent Senior Studios
New Media
Photography
Video

Jewett hosts two computer labs-- the Media Arts Lab (PC) and JAC350 (Mac). Both of these labs are frequently scheduled as classroom space and may only be used by enrolled members of classes scheduled in the space during class time. Enrolled members of classes scheduled in the space also have priority use of these labs outside of class time. The spaces may be reserved by approved student orgs, but approval is not automatic. Please contact Samara Pearlstein, spearls2, if your group would like to explore reserving one of these labs.

The photography darkroom is also located in Jewett. This room is used as scheduled classroom space for darkroom-based photography classes, and outside of class time is reserved for the use of students enrolled in photo classes who have been trained by Wellesley's photo professor or tech in the use of the space. Untrained students who do not receive clearance from the professor and tech are not able to work in this space. Contact Farimah Eshraghi, feshragh, with questions.

Students enrolled in ARTS 317H/318H, Advanced Independent Senior Projects, have assigned individual studio spaces in Jewett, which remains theirs for the entire academic year (provided they enroll in both halves of the class). These spaces may not be reserved for use by anyone other than the ARTS 317H/318H group.

The department's primary exhibition spaces-- the Jewett Art Gallery, Jewett Sculpture Court, and Jewett Hallway Galleries-- are located on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the building. All gallery spaces are scheduled and managed by the Gallery Director, Samara Pearlstein. Contact her (spearls2) with questions about use of these spaces.
