Bobcats Hold Off Wellesley 69-64 in Overtime

WELLESLEY, CONN. – Carla Flaherty (Gorham, Maine) scored seven of her game-high 20 points to lead Bates College (7-2) to a 69-64 overtime decision against Wellesley College (5-5) in a non-conference women's basketball match-up at Wellesley.

Flaherty connected on two jumpers and netted her third three-point field goal of the game as Bates outscored Wellesley 12-7 in the extra stanza for the win.

Trailing by 11 points at 52-41 with just over 10 minutes left to play in regulation, Wellesley forced the game into overtime outscoring Bates 16-4 for a 57-57 tie at the end of the second half. Sophomore Bridget Harris (Newbury Park, Calif.) scored 14 of Wellesley's 16 points in the run, including a string of eight straight unanswered points on a jumper and two three-point plays collecting the hoop and the harm on lay-ups. Harris, who ended the game with 16 points, eight rebounds and three assists, capped the Wellesley run with her only three-pointer of the game to give Wellesley a 57-55 lead with 25 seconds remaining, before Bates' Heather Taylor (Nobleboro, Maine) netted a lay-up off of a Olivia Zurek (Arlington, Mass.) assist as the clock ran down.

Zurek finished with a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Laura Nafe (Roland, Ark.) and Lauren Dubois (Beverly, Mass.) chipped in with eight points a piece.

Wellesley's Erin Johnson (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.) had a team-high 18 points while Kelly Grover (Westbrook, Maine) finished with 16 points, nine rebounds, five assists and three blocks.
