Bender Leads Wellesley to 1-0 Win over Wheaton in Regular Season Finale

Wellesley, Mass. - Wellesley's Laura Bender (Mattapoisett, Mass./Tabor Academy) netted an unassisted goal with 6:45 remaining in the first half of action to break open a scoreless stalemate and lead the Blue to a 1-0 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference field hockey game, Tuesday at Wheaton. With the win, Wellesley improves to 13-3 overall and 7-1in the NEWMAC while Wheaton falls to 8-10 overall and 4-4 in the conference.

Despite outshooting Wheaton 20-4, Wellesley had trouble finding the back of the net as the Lyon's Emily Fiskio (Branford, Conn.) made 15 saves on the day.

Wellesley will return to action, Saturday, November 2 and will host either MIT or WPI at 1 p.m. in the first round of the NEWMAC playoffs.
