With the win, Mount Holyoke improves to 5-5 overall and earns its first conference win of the season to stand at 1-3 in the NEWMAC. With its second consecutive conference loss, Wellesley is now 5-7 overall and 1-3 in the conference. Gardner was awarded the penalty kick after a Mount Holyoke player was brought down in the penalty box. Mount Holyoke had broken through Wellesley’s defense on a through ball. Mount Holyoke keeper Tiffany Picard (Belmont, N.H.) made seven saves on 11 Wellesley shots to earn the shutout, while Wellesley’s Kristin Doeberl (West Redding, Conn.) made four saves on six Mount Holyoke shots.
