Wellesley Sweeps Clark in Home Opener
Wellesley, Mass. – Wellesley Softball swept Clark University
in the Blue’s home opener on Saturday afternoon. The Blue
defeated the Cougars 4-3 in 11 innings in game one and topped Clark
7-3 in game two. With these wins, Wellesley improves to 10-5 on
the season and 2-4 in the NEWMAC, while Clark University drops
to 6-7 overall and 2-3 in NEWMAC play.
Sophomore Jenna Harvey (London, Ontario) and first-year Babarajean
Grundlock (Blackwood, N.J.) picked up the wins for the Blue, and
both pitchers struck out eight on the day. In two games, Laura
Weslander (Mendota Heights, Minn.) was 4-6 from the plate with
a double, scored three runs, and added an RBI. Christine Sodaro
(Tiburon, Calif.) collected two hits in the doubleheader and scored
five runs.
Senior Kelly Christensen (Jefferson, Mass.) had four hits, one
stolen base and an RBI for the Cougars, while Jackie DeMore (Essex,
Mass.) and Heather Warren (Upland, Calif.) both collected three
hits.
The Blue will return to action on Tuesday, April 4th when the
team travels to Tufts University for 4:00 pm game.
