| ABOUT ATHLETIC TRAINING/SPORTS MEDICINE
- The Wellesley College Athletic Training/Sports Medicine program coordinates the medical services for all varsity student-athletes. A certified athletic trainer is responsible for prevention, evaluation, rehabilitation and disposition of athletically related injuries. The student athletic training aides work closely with the staff athletic trainers, team physician, and Health Center clinicians to provide top level care.
- All student-athletes undergo a comprehensive pre-participation exam to identify any predisposing risk factors for injuries. Should any factors be identified during these exams, student-athletes are given preventative maintenance programs in order to reduce the risk of future injuries.
- A certified athletic trainer is present at all home varsity athletic contests. Athletic training aides assist with practice coverage as first aiders. Typically, an athletic trainer will be the first responder to a situation regarding an athletically related injury.
- All varsity student-athletes are eligible to do their rehabilitation here on campus in our athletic training room. The athletic trainers will design, implement and supervise a rehabilitation program specifically for each student-athlete’s injury and needs. These programs involve a wide array of rehabilitation protocols such as muscular strength and endurance, proprioceptive balance, range of motion, and functional activity.
