Wellesley soccer team has taken a huge leap forward in the last few weeks. With three big wins under our belt, two being conference games, the team is turning it around at the perfect point.

Our first big win of the week was just a few towns over at Brandeis University. The game started off a bit shaky with Brandeis scoring just 2:23 into the contest, but Wellesley quickly picked it up. We finally broke through about 15 minutes into the second half off a Chelsea Patry corner who found Five Head (Erin Simons) in the box. The goal was enough to take us into overtime...

And in just 15 seconds of overtime play Megan Turchi lofted a ball from about 30 yards, scoring the golden goal game winner!

The next game against Mt. Holyoke was held during Homecoming weekend at Wellesley. Despite the rainy weather, fans gathered and cheered on the Blue to a 4-0 victory. The first goal was scored by Amanda Young, off a through ball from Dozer (Jen Marble). The next three goals were scored in the second half by another Chelsea Patry corner, as well as a cross by Dozer to Patry. The last goal "sealed the deal" as Megan Turchi scored a penalty kick after Jennie Krasker was taken down in the box. The win marked the third shut out for the Blue and three more conference points.

This past week we took it to Coast Guard and 'coasted' to a solid 4-1 victory. Senior Catherine 'Scrappy Do Caruso' had a goal an assist in the effort and has managed to play inspiring stuff throughout. Despite getting three stitches in her face, a broken finger and a tweaked knee all in the last week Catherine continues to be a mainstay in the first eleven and leads with lots of heart...talk about bleeding blue!

Bom Gia!

Eu espero que esta mensagem o ache bem. The Wellesley Blue soccer team enters 2009 thriving off what was an amazing summer tour of Brazil. The group spent 10 days traveling the beautiful South American countryside to soak in the culture and play 'friendly' games against local women's teams. We also had the opportunity to lead a few skills clinics for children in the area. It was enjoyable to interact with the kids and a bit of a surprise when they became our biggest fans! Following each of the games we were flattered by the request for autographs, pictures, and a few smooches...one of our players even had a marriage proposal?! The towering mountain range and white sand beaches provided the perfect backdrop for our student athletes to see, feel and embrace the passion of the world's most successful 'futbol' playing country. In return we played some of our most inspired soccer to date. As a result the team went undefeated winning two games and tied one. Please look for online journal coming soon!

We hope this experience and excitement surrounding the program will spill over and pay dividends in our 2009 campaign. We return a solid core in the upperclass and very talented group of first years who are sure to make an immediate impact. We have put together another challenging schedule in hopes we will be battle ready for the ladder half of the season and NEWMAC play. We are doing our best to get an alumnae reception to follow our game against Mt. Holyoke over Homecoming Weekend so if you plan to attend or are in the area please be sure to drop us a line! Thanks for your continued support, we look forward hearing from you and hope to see you soon!

Joga Bonito!

Tony
