September 20th, 2008 Against Clark College

The Blue traveled to Worcester today with out co-captain Meghan Stubblebine (Cumming, GA) who was suffering from an illness, yet were able to triumph over NEWMAC foe, Clark, 9-0.

The charge was lead by first year player Anjalee Martin (Silver Spring, MD) who pick up her first collegiete victory 6-0, 6-0. Katie Ching (Kaneohe, HI), Malike Hayashi (Tokyo, Japan) and Dara Azuma (Honolulu, HI) all picked up their first win of the year all three rolling in straight sets. The top of the lineup was filled out by two first years Marie Watanabe (Houston, TX) and Grace Cheng (Columbia, MD) who both came out using their forehands to dictate points.

In the doubles, the teams of Jen Schwarzkopf (Hinsdale, IL)/Mohona Siddique (Chevy Chase, MD)and Shivani Saxena (MIlan, Italy) and Jacqueline Shen (Calgary, Canada) both improved to 2-0 on the young season. Nathalie Herman (San francisco, CA) and Malika Hayashi rounded out the sweep with an 8-0 victory at number 3. All 11 traveling players were able to compete today, and dedicated the victory to Jen Schwarzkopf, who turned 22 today!

With the victory, this brings the Blue's record to 2-0 in the NEWMAC and 2-0 overall. Next up is the ITA Regionals this weekend at MIT in Cambridge, MA. Marie Watanabe, and Jen Schwarzkopf will be seeds in the main draw, while Shivani Saxena and Meghan Stubblebine are also playing. Jacqueline Shen is the first alternate, and the teams of Schwarzkopf and Siddique, and Watanabe and Cheng will also be there competing in the doubles main draw.
