The 2009 Wellesley Volleyball team is improving quickly. We are an extremely young team (seven first-years out of twelve) and we are still working hard to learn to play together, but the talent and potential is exciting. We've enjoyed some big wins including a 3-0 win over Amherst and a 3-1 win over Wesleyan, but we have been inconsistent at other times during the season. Alice Cummings (Senior captain) was an All-Tournament selection at the Tufts Invitational Oct. 2-3, where the Blue went 3-1 against mostly tough out-of-region competition. We have played an extremely difficult schedule and are currently 11-5. We will head out to Smith College this weekend for Seven Sisters competition and then will be home Oct. 16-17 for the Wellesley Invitational. We expect to be playing our best volleyball at the end of the month and into post-season so follow us carefully the week of Oct. 26th when we play MIT, Springfield and Smith, all in one week, to determine the regular season NEWMAC champion and the host of the NEWMAC tournament.

The 2009 Wellesley Volleyball Team looks terrific! The returners are an extremely talented, hard-working group with terrific leadership skills. They include returning All-Conference and All-Region Senior Alice Cummings. And we have seven (!!) first-years who who make up one of the most talented classes ever at Wellesley. They come from California (of course), Texas, Delaware, Washington and Ohio. The 2009 schedule is very challenging but the Wellesley squad should once again be at the top of the NEWMAC conference and the New England regional rankings. Keep track of our successes right here on the Wellesley website, and be on the lookout for information for a big alumnae volleyball reunion in the fall of 2010!
Go Blue!
