Wellesley Athletes Compete at Mount Holyoke Track Invitational

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College was represented by several athletes at the Mount Holyoke Track and Field Invitational on Saturday.  Blue runners recorded nine top-five finishes at the event including three first-place finishes.

Wellesley athletes recorded wins in the 10,000-meter (Jessica Weng), the 1,500-meter (Clare Egan) and the 400-meter (Ashley Muller) events.  In her first time running the 10,000-meters, Weng qualified for the Division III New England Championships with a time of 41:27.91.  For Egan, who also qualified for the New England Championships, her time of 4:52.39 in the 1,500-meters was a new personal best.  In the 400-meter race, Muller's winning time of 1:03.93 came in her first collegiate outdoor track event.

Other top finishers for Wellesley were Madeline Harms (4th) and Maura Tucker (6th) in the 1,500 meters and Amy Damon who took third in the 5,000-meters.  Harms finished in 5:10.27 and Tucker ran a 5:33.69 while Damon recorded a 5k time of 19:43.78, shaving over 10 seconds off of her previous personal best.

Swimming standout Savanna Johnson picked up two top-three finishes at the event.  In the 100-meters she took third place in a time of 13.82 while in the 200-meter race, she finished sixth in a time of 28.76.  In the 800-meter event, Katie Watson ran a 2:31.91, good for second place out of 12 finishers.

Rounding out the day's action, the Wellesley team of Muller, Watson, Egan and Johnson established a school record in the 4 x 200 meter relay.  The foursome took second place in a time of 1:58.73.
