Lekas Named NEWMAC Athlete of the Week

WELLESLEY, MA – Wellesley College sophomore field hockey player Callie Lekas (Brewster, MA) was named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Week for the period ending September 23, 2007.

Callie Lekas led Wellesley to a 2-0 week, with both wins coming in overtime. Against Gordon College, Lekas assisted on teammate Molly Morrow's goal and then set up the overtime goal to win the game for Wellesley.

In a 1-0 win at Mount Holyoke, Lekas carried the ball from the 25 into the circle and then launched a perfect cross to teammate Kate Cushing who scored the game-winner. Lekas finished with three assists on the week and is currently the team leader in scoring with six goals and six assists.

The Blue, winners of five-straight games, have a record of 5-1 on the season. Wellesley will next face Connecticut College on Wednesday at 4:30 PM in New London, CT.
