Wellesley Softball Players Earn All-Region Honors
WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Wellesley College softball team landed four players on the National Fastpitch Coaches' Association (NFCA) All-New England Region team. Senior pitcher Jenna Harvey (London, Ontario) and sophomore leftfielder Megan Wood (Jacksonville, Fla.) were named first team All-Region while senior catcher Kara Wong (Milford, Mass.) and junior utility player Amanda Tai (Melrose, Mass.) earned third team nods.
Harvey makes her third appearance on the All-Region team, and earns her second straight first team honor. This season, she's thrown four no-hitters and has amassed 238 strikeouts. On the year, she has an ERA of 0.55 and a 16-3 record. Nationally, Harvey is second in Division III in fewest hits allowed per seven innings and most strikeouts per game and is third in ERA. Earlier this season, she was named the NEWMAC Player and Pitcher of the Year.
Wood, a returning third-team All-Region selection, is currently hitting .361 for the Blue. Her .602 slugging percentage leads Wellesley as does her .459 on-base percentage. In 28 games, Wood has three doubles, one triple and a team-leading five homeruns. A two-time All-NEWMAC selection, she's driven in 18 runs this season and has a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.
Tai earns her first All-Region selection after also being named to the All-NEWMAC team. Splitting time between, second base, third base and the outfield, she currently leads Wellesley with a .365 batting average and 35 hits. On the year, she’s tallied six doubles, one triple, eight RBI and a team-leading six stolen bases.
Wong, a three-time All-Region selection, has also made the All-NEWMAC team for four straight years. Her 28 RBI lead all Wellesley players this season while her 33 hits this season rank her third on the team. Wong also has four homeruns this season as well as five doubles and one triple.
Up next for Wellesley, the Blue will travel to Providence, RI to take part in the seven-team New England Regional hosted by Rhode Island College from May 8-11. Wellesley will take on Lesley University at 10:00am on Thursday, May 8.
