Sorenson Earns Two Honorable Mention All-America Honors
Junior Diver Leads Wellesley at NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships

OXFORD, Ohio – Wellesley College diver Kate Sorenson (Bolton, Mass.) wrapped up her first nationals appearance at the 2008 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.  Competing in Oxford, Ohio, the junior took 12th place on the 1-meter board and then 14th in the 3-meter competition, earning honorable mention All-America honors in both events.

In the 1-meter competition, Sorenson stood in 14th place with a score of 150.30 after the preliminary round on Thursday.  Later that night, her finals dives pushed her to 12th place overall with a score of 391.20.  In the 3-meter board, Sorenson once again used the finals to push her up the ladder, improving from 15th place to 14th with a final score of 394.4.

The All-America honors are the first for Sorenson making her 2-2 in her career at the championships. The diver currently holds the Wellesley school record for scores on the 1-meter board.

Also competing at the national championships, first-year swimmer Cathy Poon (McLean, Va.) earned a 25th place finish in the 50-free (24.51) and also Poon finished the 100-freestyle event in a time of 57.02.

The Wellesley College swimming and diving team finished the 2007-08 season with a dual meet record of 9-4, including 5-2 in the NEWMAC.  The Blue also took fourth place in the NEWMAC Championship Meet and won their 11th straight Seven Sisters title in convincing fashion.
