Wellesley Swimming & Diving Wins 2008 Seven Sisters Championship

Northampton, MA - For the eleventh consecutive year, Wellesley College took home the title at the Seven Sisters Swimming and Diving Championships. The Blue won nine of the 20 events to finish with a total of 1126.5 points. Vassar College (891.5) grabbed second place, while host Smith College (715) earned third. Mount Holyoke College (407) and Bryn Mawr College (344) rounded out the field.

Day two of the championship featured seven events, three of which had new meet records set. Shanti Freitas, of Smith College, began the day winning the 3-meter diving event in route to setting a new meet record of 511.45. The previous record had been 422.55, set in 1996.

Marly Pineda, also of Smith, began the swimming session of the day by winning the 1650 free with a time of 18:12:32, breaking the meet record she had previously set. Additionally, Pineda took the 200 fly with a time of 2:13:13. In the 200 back, Emily Love of Vassar, took home first place with a time of 2:10:68 edging out her previously set meet record of 2:10:98.

Wellesley took first place in the three other events of the day. Cathy Poon won the 100 free with a time of 55:53. The 200 breast was won by Jenny Wu, with a time of 2:31:44. The Blue also won the last event of the championship, the 400 free relay, with a time of 3:46:94. The relay team consisted of Wu, Dana Dutton, Poon, and Savanna Johnson.
