Four Wellesley Swimmers/Divers Earn NEWMAC All-Academic Honors
Babson Park, Mass. - Four members of the Wellesley College swimming and diving team have been named to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference Team. Sophomores Emilie Mitten (Norwalk, Conn.) and Alex Stark (Moorestown, N.J.) earned all-academic nods for the first time. Mitten, a freestyler, has not declared a major. Stark, a butterflyer, carries a double major in international relations and political science. Junior diving standout Kate Sorenson (Bolton, Mass.), a mathematics major, also earned her first all-academic selection. Senior freestyler and breaststroker Becky Hanna (Hong Kong), an economics major, is a three-time Academic All-Conference selection.
Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2007 fall semester, achieved second year academic status at her institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.
The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference consists of 10 highly selective institutions committed to academic excellence: Babson College, Clark University, U.S Coast Guard Academy, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, Springfield College, Wellesley College, Wheaton College, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
