Wellesley Names Brian Kuscher Head Tennis Coach

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College is pleased to announce the hiring of Brian Kuscher as head tennis coach and instructor of physical education.  A former tennis standout at Franklin Pierce University, Kuscher holds a bachelor’s degree in mass communications.

“I am thrilled to join the Wellesley coaching staff and community,” said Kuscher.  “The high level of excellence on and off the court, the closeness of the coaching staff, and the great strides the tennis program has made in the last seven years was the driving force behind my decision to come here.  I look forward to continue to grow the national success of Wellesley College tennis,” he adds.

Kuscher currently serves as an assistant coach for the Dartmouth women’s tennis team, a position that he’s held for the past two seasons.  At Dartmouth, Kuscher helped the Big Green return to the national scene with a ranking as high as 53rd in 2007.  In 2008, he helped guide Dartmouth to a 16-4 overall record and its first winning season in the Ivies in eight years.

Prior to his stint at Dartmouth, Kuscher served as the assistant director of New England Team Tennis (NETT) for six years.  He also served as head tennis professional at the Quechee Club in Vermont and as the assistant tennis professional at the Boss Tennis Center at Dartmouth College.

“Brian has passion, drive and a work ethic that will challenge our student-athletes to maintain their high level of competitive success,” commented Bridget Belgiovine, Wellesley Director of Athletics.  “His knowledge, strong background and varied experiences in tennis coaching and teaching will ensure that our program's history of competitive distinction will continue.  We look forward to having Brian join Wellesley College and our Physical Education, Recreation and Athletics department.”

As a student-athlete at Franklin Pierce, Kuscher accumulated more than 100 wins during his career and was named the New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Year for the 1997-98 season.
