Wellesley's Schwarzkopf Named NEWMAC Singles Player of the Week

BABSON PARK, Mass. –  Wellesley College senior Jen Schwarzkopf (Hinsdale, IL) was named the New England Jen SchwarzkopfWomen's and Men's Athletics Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Tennis Singles Player of the Week for the period ending October 26th.

Schwarzkopf went 2-0 for Wellesley last week, leading the Blue to their fifth consecutive NEWMAC Championship.

The senior opened the week with a convincing 6-2, 6-2 win over Division-I URI's Tristany Leikem at number two singles.

At the NEWMAC tournament, Schwarzkopf was leading Babson's Jess Huang 6-4, 4-2 before Wellesley picked up the 5-0 decision in the semifinals. In the title match, she won the deciding fifth point with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) victory over MIT's Anastasia Vishnevetsky.

Wellesley tennis finished the fall portion of their season with a 9-2 record and earned a berth into the 2009 NCAA Championships.  The Blue will return to the courts in the spring.
