Cummings Named AVCA All-American
WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley senior Alice Kate Cummings (Tallahassee, FL) has been selected by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) as a National All-American, Honorable Mention. The award, announced Tuesday, is her second straight appearance on the All-American team.
The honor caps off a stellar career for Cummings. A double major in economics and mathematics, she has been selected to the NEWMAC Academic All-Conference team three straight years (2007, 2008, 2009). She has also collected a host of playing awards: NEWMAC Player of the Week (three times); First Team All-NEWMAC (2008, 2009);
NEWMAC Athlete of the Year (2009);
NEWVA All-Region (2008, 2009); AVCA Regional All-American twice (2008, 2009); and
AVCA National All-American Honorable Mention (2008, 2009).
Cummings finishes her career with 1028 kills and 1207 digs, only the fifth player in Wellesley's history to tally more than 1000 kills and 1000 digs in a career (Regan Gough '95, Allison Schnitzer '00, Ali Mostue '03, Murielle Dawdy '07). During Cummings' tenure, Wellesley volleyball has compiled a record of 99-35, captured two NEWMAC titles (2007, 2009), and earned three consecutive berths in the NCAA tournament (2007, 2008, 2009), including an appearance in the Sweet Sixteen in 2008. The Blue finished the 2009 season at 24-10, advancing to the second round of the NCAA tournament before falling to Tufts University.
