Wellesley College Spinning Room Goes Green!

Thanks to the Green Grant from Wellesley College Class of 1957, the spinning room is going green and generating renewable energy. This simple aerobic activity could generate clean, renewable energy and reduce our reliance on coal-based fuel. It uniquely delivers a solution that improves the environment while promoting health through fitness.

A typical group cycling class with about 20 bikes has the potential to produce up to 3.6 megawatts (3,600,000 watts) of renewable energy a year.
A traditional power plant producing this amount of electricity will:

  • require 2.5 Tons of Fossil Fuels
  • release 2.68 Tons of CO 2 into the atmosphere
