Dorothea "Dot" Widmayer, In Memoriam
Professor Emerita of BiologyRetired from Wellesley in 1996 after 35 years teaching Introductory Biology and Genetics. Previously taught at Simmons College for two years. Please see the tribute published in the Wellesley Magazine.
My research interests were in gene action and the control of gene expression of surface antigens in the protozoan, Paramecium aurelia. I also served on planning committees for the development of the Science Center, on Appointments Committees, as chair of the Pre-med Committee, as Chair of my department and as the Academic Director of the Science Center.
I was always interested in better ways to teach Introductory Biology, Genteics, Molecular Biology and Evolution.
I also served as a consultant for Project Kaleidoscope, an NSF sponsored group focused on the improvement of the teaching of science in colleges and universities.
I have an abiding interest in books and the book arts. This had led to an extensive book collection, the care and disposition of which, keeps me very busy.
