  1. 1-2 page proposal (single-spaced), describing your project or program and explaining how it fits into your overall past and future plan of study at Wellesley College.  For example:
    1. a field school to give you hands-on archaeological or conservation experience
    2. travel to a museum or archival collection as the basis of your honors thesis
    3. an intensive summer course to bring you up to the intermediate or advanced level in Greek or Latin at Wellesley College.
  2. List of courses taken in the Department of Classical Studies (Greek, Latin, Classical Civilization), courses in the Department of Art related to the ancient world, and related courses, e.g., anthropology, archaeology, history, philosophy, political science, religion.
  3. Budget.  Be as specific as possible.  For travel expenses, look for low fares, if possible, and try websites such as Orbitz and Kayak.  For living expenses, be reasonable.  Your budget will be read as carefully as your proposal.
  4. Transcript (unofficial).

More than one award may be made each year, but some proposals may not be funded or may not be funded in full.  In a given year's competition, even some meritorious proposals may not receive funding. Preference will be given to students who have not received an award previously.

Additional information

  • Graduating seniors are not eligible to apply for funding.
